WTIC is easily used to set watches on the eastern coast because (since 1943) it sends the  Morse Code letter "V" at the top of every hour. The letter "V" represents "Victory during WW2" and is also the theme of Beethoven's 5th Symphony.

Cuba lost their electricity a few days ago but last night they were back online and booming into West Virginia. I was hearing the "tone" at the top of the minute followed by their charistic "RR".

 I remember this station from my childhood days. I caught them in the early morning hours just before sunrise. 

WTAW College Station TX- AM 1620

    

Looking back over my logbook, I discovered three different stations on my 1620 frequency. They were Texas, Florida, and St. Croix in the Virgin Islands.  Although it's been a few years time span, this just goes to show how propagation can make all the difference in the world. 

College Station in Texas is famous for the "Bush" family.
